For years, the national rhetoric has only focused on extremist views in both of our parties designed to create division and distrust. The real truth is that we are united because we all want to protect what we hold dear: faith, family, freedom, and our home.
Our shared priorities should always transcend party – parties come and go and party ideology shifts - yet our aspirations remain consistent.
I ran for County Attorney as a different party because it was the only way for me to be guaranteed a spot on the ballot in the general election. If I had run as a republican, then that party alone could have decided to stick with the status quo and eliminate my candidacy at a convention or in a primary not open to the public or all registered voters.
For the democratic party, I was the only candidate, which guarantees that I will be on the ballot in a general election. If I had run as unaffiliated or independent, I would need to collect 1500 signatures, which I don’t have time to do because I’m running a law practice and serving my clients every day.
My main goal in running was to give all registered voters a choice in this general election. I didn’t want there to be just one name on the ballot, which is what has occurred the last 12 years. If I had run as a republican, there would be only one name on the ballot this year. Everyone deserves a choice! If elected I can know it was because I was chosen by all the people. This will give me the confidence I’m going to need to take on the current system.
When there is so much discontent and signs of corruption in the county, then good, capable people, unaffiliated with current leaders and practices, need to step up. So that’s what I’m doing.
Voting for me does not threaten conservatism, principles, or the cultural character of our community instead it enhances and protects it. I was born and raised in Utah. I grew up camping, fishing and exploring the state with my family. I’m a wife and mother of 2 children who attend school here. We live in Midway in an old farmhouse with our dog, cat, and chickens.
I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a church that spans across multiple countries, governments, cultures, traditions, and party systems. Leaders in my church have taught “even if we don’t share every belief in common, we want good people to be in government, and we ought to support them and look for them and encourage them.” (President D. Todd Christofferson).
I have been practicing law here in Wasatch County over the last decade. My law practice is called Old Town Legal Services, located in a historical Bonner home across from the Mercantile restaurant in Midway. At that office, every day, I meet with individuals of our community – we talk about their problems, needs, and goals. We discuss how we can fix the problem, meet those needs, and achieve their goals and we come up with a plan of action and implement it.
Through my representation we create friendship and trust. Never in my practice and representation has party politics affected the way I do my job, nor has it affected whether a client chose to hire me. They hired me because I listened to them, and I’m a great attorney.
My methodology will continue as your County Attorney. The duties of a County Attorney enumerated in Utah Code never mention party or party affiliation – it has nothing to do with those duties and responsibilities.
A County Attorney is uniquely positioned to take on bad practices and impropriety within the County Government. Because we act as Legal Counsel, not only for the community, but also for County Council, we are obligated to recognize unethical behavior and stop it.
I believe that the best way to tackle this is to bring in someone from the outside, like me, who has no prior relationship with our current leaders, and who is not entrenched in current practices. This is the only way to be able to see the current problems and get a fresh start.
As an attorney, I have already made an oath to uphold the state and federal constitutions, I have extensively studied and continue to study ethics and civility, and I am beholden to the Utah Rules of Professional Conduct. I intend to pass that training on to the other leaders currently in office and those you elect this November.
Please support me. I’m the right person for the job!
